A QUIET SUMMER WITH REGARDS DXING:

There have been far too many distractions over this beautiful Scottish summer to be sitting in front of a PC / TV screen. But on the other hand I have been inspired by three separate contacts that came through via email to the dx archive area of this web site.

Community Radio Youghal, a former common station at nights way back in 1980 / 81 on 1512 are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year, and there are some very intersting videos that have been uploaded by YOUGHALONLINE. I was initially drawn to the videos by "225" who posted links to the initial interview with Noel of CRY, one of the founders who speaks about the earky days on 1512!!.

Radio 4U from Burnfoot, Co Donegal have provided us with a fascinating long history of the station...

BIG L Limerick was another station that was heard by dxers on various frequencies around the top end of the MW band at night. Mike from Big L has submited his url of the Big L story. I must say that it is an absolutely fascinating piece of work as well, written by the people that were there, and not just casual tourists and dxers like ourselves, trying to piece things together..

A POOR SUMMER FOR SPORADIC E:

It has been a really bad summer for me personally re sporadic e logs. I have only managed to hear a couple of openings, and neither have been of a saturated band up to 108. Even Davie H a couple of miles away had some Scandanavian dx one of the days, when there was nothing here bar a flutter on 89.0.

I was also driving back via a local high spot about 4 miles west of here, and heard a strong Arabic on 87.7 on the high spot, but as I went down the hill towards the deep valley I live in it vanished. I always had this lottery dream and houses on a high hill.. It has never happened yet!

 

SUMMER TIME IN SUNNY SCOTLAND:

For a change we have really had a great long dry spell in June and July here. Not every day was red hot sunshine, but we have had our fair share. Not the kind of weather you would like to be sitting in a dx shack twiddling knobs!!

SPORADIC E AT LAST:

Today I will class it as the first e's of the season here. Down South have been rewarded with multiple large openings, as well as tadx, but the band, band 2, has been dead here most times I have checked.
