Radio Telstar South broadcast to London from 1976 until at least 1980 on 92.8MHz, originally for just one hour per week between 7pm and 8pm on a Sunday evening.  Despite the brief broadcast times, the station was extremely popular in the days when the only legal alternatives were BBC Radio 1 and Capital Radio.   The format was golden oldies, something that was to be copied two decades later by todays so called 'gold' stations

1980_02_10_sun_telstar_south_928fm_davereading_tx_after_raid-gh214.mp3 New Apr 2025 Radio Telstar South were raided on January 1980 and this was their first trsnamission after that, on Sunday 10th February 1980. The recording is airchecked as the signal was a bit weak at the receiving location in North London. Dave Reading hosts and is asking for help to keep the station on the air. 54MB

Here are two airchecks  from Sunday 19th March 1978.  The first features the Radio Telstar South sign on at 7pm, followed by  the Kid Johnson show.  (File size = 370k)
The second is the sign-off, again with Kid Johnson, following a Motown special from Horace Cracksman(?). (File Size = 270k)
