IRISH PIRATES A / Z

As the sticker says, Arklow Community Radio broadcast to the County Wicklow and North County Wexford region. They were initially logged on 1201kHz (announced as 248m) in 1981 but by late 1982 had moved to 1251kHz / 239m. It was difficult to hear the station outside of its primary service area due to lower modulation and also as Erneside Community Radio were on the same frequency from early 1985 with a much louder signal. There were stories that ACR purchased at least one of the old Sunshine Radio Marconi 750 watt transmitters which were taken during the raid on 19th May 1983, and returned to Sunshine by the P&T in October 1983. ACR also broadcast on 99.0MHz, later moving to 99.2MHz locally to Arklow.

1982_01_01_fri_arklow_992fm_1510-1555_pattyrol_vincentmcarthy-gh863.mp3 New Mar 2026 New Years Day 1982 with Pat Tyrol followed by Vincent McArthy who was apparently sitting in for the regular presenter who was a little worse for wear after celebrating on New Years Eve. As recorded from 99.2MHz in Arklow where the radio seems to de-tune at times. The wavelength was announced as 250m and 99.2MHz at this time, which would have put the medium wave transmissions around 1201kHz at this time. 65MB
